Potential Hives Causes May Surprise You

Hives are a problem that many people face. There are several potential hives causes and you might find some of them surprising. Allergic reactions, infections, diseases and general stress are among the most common causes. You can't decide on a hives treatment strategy until you figure out what caused them.

Allergies Can Cause Hives

If your body is allergic to something, such as a food or medication, the result can be hives on your skin. It can take up to a few hours for these to show up, or it can happen immediately. Food allergy related hives usually show up within a few minutes. Although it has taken up to a few hours, in some cases, that is very rare. When a person responds to medication as an allergy hives are never the same for everyone.

It can take as long as a couple weeks for hives to appear when it's caused by a medication allergy, or it can show up right away. Nearly ten percent of hives allergy cases are chronic, but the rest are acute. The most allergy driven hive cases include pollen, mold, dust mites, medications, and specific foods. Some medications, especially those that are non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, are more likely to cause hives.

Stress Can Play A Role In Hives

Stress, whether acute or chronic, is another potential hive creator. You may not be under a lot of stress or even feel like you are stressed. You could even feel completely calm. Unfortunately, you body might be stressed on the inside, resulting in a major hives problem. Even positive things, if they stress the body's energy supply, may result in hives trouble.

In Some Cases, Hives Might Indicate A Serious Problem

An infection in the body can be another reason for you to have hives. Fevers are a common symptom that go along with hives, when an infection is the root cause of the problem. As far as what types of infections can cause hives, there are several, including urinary tract infections, stomach ulcers and hepatitis.

There are also diseases in the body that can cause hives to occur. Skin hives, it's important to keep in mind, are your body's outer way of indicating to you that there is an inner issue that needs to be addressed. Commonly, disease-related hives are caused by kidney or liver disease or autoimmune disease. Thyroid functions, whether too low or too high, can also be another cause of hive outbreaks. Hives can also appear because of autoimmune disease, a condition where the body attacks its own healthy cells.

Whatever hives causes you might be subject to, just remember that there is a suitable hives treatment available to you. Just remember, you need to have patience, since it can take a while to find the right treatment for your hives. In addition, you should consult with your doctor if you suspect your condition is caused by more than a simple allergy or stress reaction.
